日籍投手岡島秀樹去年季後尚未放棄「美」夢，曾表態欲再次挑戰大聯盟，29日則傳出奧克蘭運動家與岡島接觸協商當中。
根據消息人士指出，運動家正考慮簽下這名37歲左投手，添補牛棚戰力，這項消息由《舊金山紀事報》率先報導。
岡島秀樹2011年底受紐約洋基隊青睞，簽下小聯盟合約和獲邀參加球隊春訓，他雖自認為手臂和投球方面並沒有任何問題，但洋基球團向舊東家紅襪確認傷病史後，便宣布取消雙方合約。
岡島黯然返日後立即被福岡軟體銀行鷹隊所網羅，去年球季出賽56場，繳出2敗、自責分率0.94的投球成績，並有9次救援成功和24個中繼點，總投球局數47.2局，是球隊牛棚不可或缺的戰力之一。
